Description
On my return to South Africa, I was dismayed to find my white Alsatian desperately ill. She died four days after my arrival. I mourned her loss and immediately saw the similarity in her features reflected in the memory of the forlorn donkeys which were doing duty in the labyrinthine alleys of the Medina’s of Morocco. Our guide, Aziz, pointed out that the Taxi Petit was the smaller sized donkey and the Taxi Grand, the larger mule.
In an artistic attempt to rescue the pair, I isolated them from their harsh environment. Both of them confront the viewer, beseeching them for assistance. Then, by painting them with lavish empathy, I not only exorcised my grief, but simultaneously drew attention to their plight.
